Mentorship Program 2026 - 2027

Become a Mentor. Empower a Female Student. Shape a Future; while Building Your Resume.

Raha Mentorship Program offers twenty mentor volunteers the opportunity to support twenty international female students from Afghanistan who wish to pursue their studies in Canada.

Through one-on-one mentorship, you can help a student better understand her educational options, prepare for applications, navigate available resources, and make informed decisions about her future.

Program Duration

  • The mentorship program will run for 8 months, from October 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027.

What you gain!

  • Build your resume: Gain hands-on experience in mentorship, student support, education, research, and cross-cultural communication.

  • Develop transferable skills: Strengthen your communication, organization, problem-solving, leadership, research, and interpersonal skills.

  • Gain mentorship experience: Learn how to support another student through a long-term goal while developing your own mentoring and leadership abilities.

  • Expand your professional network: Connect with other student mentors, Raha Scholars team members, educators, and professionals involved in international education and student support.

  • Explore international education: Gain firsthand exposure to Canadian post-secondary institutions, scholarships, educational pathways, and resources for international students.

  • Make a meaningful impact: Help an Afghan female student explore opportunities that may otherwise be difficult to navigate independently.

  • Receive recognition for your contribution: Your volunteer hours will be recognized, and you will receive a Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion of the program.

  • Earn additional recognition: Mentors whose mentees successfully gain admission to a Canadian college or university and successfully arrive in Canada will be eligible for a special Appreciation Award.

  • Have something meaningful to talk about in future applications: Your experience can demonstrate initiative, leadership, communication, community involvement, and a commitment to supporting educational access.

What Will Your Role Involve?

  • As a mentor, your role is to provide guidance, encouragement, and reliable information.

  • You will work directly with your mentee to help her understand and navigate the steps involved in pursuing her education in Canada.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing one-on-one guidance throughout the college, or university application process, depending on the mentee’s educational goals.

  • Helping your mentee identify and research appropriate schools, programs, and educational pathways.

  • Supporting your mentee in researching scholarships, financial assistance, and other funding opportunities, and helping her understand the application requirements.

  • Helping your mentee understand general government and immigration application processes, such as study permits, work permits, and visas, and directing her to official sources for accurate and up-to-date information.

  • Helping your mentee organize application requirements, deadlines, documents, and next steps.

  • Providing encouragement, motivation, and support throughout the application process.

  • Helping your mentee access reliable resources so she can make informed decisions about her education and future.

Time Commitment

  • Mentors are expected to dedicate approximately 4–10 hours per month to the program, including meetings and reasonable communication or preparation related to their mentee.

Who Should Apply?

  • We welcome volunteers who are passionate about supporting Afghan women and helping students pursue educational opportunities in Canada.

  • If you are an active university or college student and do not have direct experience with international applications, we strongly encourage you to apply. You do not need to have all the answers. The program will provide general guidance and support to mentors throughout the mentorship period.

  • Previous international student or immigration application experience is preferred but not required.

Important Note About the Mentor's Role

  • Mentors are not expected to provide professional immigration, legal, financial, or academic advising unless they are appropriately qualified and authorized to do so.

  • Your role is to provide general guidance, help your mentee find reliable and official information, and support her in understanding her options. When specialized advice is required, mentors should encourage mentees to consult the appropriate qualified professional or official government/educational source.

  • The final decision regarding applications, educational choices, immigration matters, and other personal decisions remains entirely with the mentee. Mentors provide support and guidance but are not responsible for making decisions on behalf of their mentees.

Application Process:

  1. Registration will open on September 2, 2026.

  2. Registration will close on September 20, 2026.

  3. Interview period: September 20 – 30, 2026.

  4. Results will be announced on October 1, 2026.
